On Friday, the football team hosted the Pendleton Buckaroos, falling 47-27 in the KGW game of the week. With this defeat, the Indians are now 3-1 and have lost their 3 game winning streak.

The Indians struck first and second, with a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. They continued to dominate, swarming Pendleton on defense and had a 20-7 lead in the 2nd before Pendleton began to storm back.

At the end of the half, Pendleton intercepted a pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. This put them on top 21-20 at the half.

To start the 3rd quarter Pendleton scored two quick touchdowns to extend their lead to 34-20. After only trailing by 7 points going into the 4th, the Indians allowed two touchdowns, making it 47-27 as time ticked down.

Senior running back Matt Roth was a bright spot for Scappoose, as he scored a 60-yard touchdown to open up the game. “Of course it’s a disappointing loss when you are playing another top team and lose, but hopefully next week we can bounce back,” he said.

Senior lineman Terrence Lewis also had some words about Friday’s game. “I feel like our team could have played a lot better in the 2nd half,” he said, “once we got down, we were down for the rest of the game.”

Next week, the Indians will host their rival St. Helens Lions in the seven-mile war, which is also the homecoming game.
